Move contacts between stages
Drag cards on the board, use the keyboard, change the stage on a record, or let payments and workflows move people for you.
Moving a contact to a new stage records where they are with you, resets their days-in-stage count, and can start a workflow. There are several ways to do it.
Before you start
- Your stages are set up the way you want them.
Steps
Drag on the board
- Open Contacts › Pipeline.
- Drag a card and drop it on another column. The column you are over is shaded. You can also drop a card on a collapsed column.
Use the keyboard
- Press Tab until the card you want is highlighted.
- Press the right arrow to move it one stage on, or the left arrow to move it one stage back.
From the contact's record
- Open the contact.
- Press the coloured stage button at the top right and pick the new stage.
From a conversation
- In Conversations, open the thread and choose Deal in the panel on the right.
- Pick a stage under Stage.
Automatically
- When a contact's order is paid, they move to the stage marked won.
- A workflow can move people with the Move to a pipeline stage step.
What happens next
- The card's day count restarts at today.
- Any switched-on workflow whose trigger is They move to a pipeline stage (for any stage, or for this one) starts for that person.
- The new stage shows on the contact's record and on the Stage column of the contacts list.
For agencies
Open the client first (Sub-accounts › Open). Each client has its own board.
Troubleshooting
The card jumped back to where it was, with an error message. The move was not saved, often because the connection dropped or a colleague changed the stages at the same moment. Reload the page and try again.
I want to move a lot of people at once. There is no bulk stage change on the contacts list. Make a workflow with a single Move to a pipeline stage step and switch it on. Then select the people on Contacts and use Trigger automation to put them all on it.
Someone moved to the won stage by themselves. They paid for an order. This is automatic.
The Deal panel in Conversations only offers the standard stage names. It lists the five stages every account starts with. For a stage you added yourself, change it on the board or on the contact's record.
Moving a card didn't start my workflow. Check the workflow is switched on (Running), that its trigger names this stage or Any stage, and that the person is not already on it.
