Group contacts under a company

When you sell to businesses, several people often belong to one customer. A company record holds the business's own details and lists the people attached to it. A stockist buying Wick & Ember candles, for example, might have a buyer, a shop manager and an accounts contact.

Before you start

• The company's name. Everything else is optional.

Steps

Add a company

1. Open Contacts › Companies.
2. Press Add company.
3. Fill in Company name, for example The Harbourside Gift Shop. Add Phone, Email, Website, Address, City, State, Postal code, Country and a Description if you have them.
4. Press Add company. A message says Company added.

Attach people to it

1. Open a contact's record.
2. Under Details, beside Company, press Add (or Change if one is set).
3. Pick the company from the list. It saves as you pick. Choose No company to detach them.

Edit or delete a company

1. On Contacts › Companies, press the company's row. A panel opens with its details and a People list.
2. Change any detail and press Save.
3. To remove it, press Delete, then Delete again in Delete …?. Press Keep it to back out.

What happens next

• The Companies list shows Company, Phone, Email, Website, City, Country, People (how many contacts are attached) and Created.
• Search companies finds a company by its name, email, website or city.
• On a contact's record, the company name links back to Contacts › Companies.
• Deleting a company removes only the company record. Its contacts stay, no longer attached to a company.

For agencies

Companies belong to the account they were made in. Open the client first (Sub-accounts › Open) to manage theirs.

Troubleshooting

The company list on a contact says "No companies yet — add one under Contacts › Companies". There are no companies in this account yet. Add one first, then come back to the contact.

"No companies match that search." Search looks at the name, email, website and city only. Try part of the name.

Somebody attached to a company is missing from its People list. Archived contacts are not listed. Restore them to see them there.

I can't press Save on a company. Company name is empty. Every company needs a name.
