Connect Zapier, Make or n8n today
Send new contacts, buyers and form fillers to Zapier, Make or n8n with a workflow and the Send to a webhook step, and know what data they receive.
There is no ready-made Zapier, Make or n8n app yet. You can still send your contacts to all three today: they each give you a webhook address, and a workflow in your account posts the contact to it. From there, they can add a row to a spreadsheet, create a record in your accounting tool or anything else they connect to.
Before you start
- An account with Zapier, Make or n8n.
- Knowing what should start the send: a new contact, a form, a purchase, a booking, a tag.
Steps
- Get the address from your other tool. - Zapier: create a Zap and choose Webhooks by Zapier as the trigger, with the Catch Hook event. Copy the webhook URL it shows. - Make: create a scenario, add the Webhooks module, choose Custom webhook, add a new one and copy its address. - n8n: add a Webhook node, set the method to POST, and copy its production URL. Activate the workflow in n8n when you are ready.
- Start a workflow in your account. Open Automations › Workflows, press Create workflow and choose Start from a template. Pick New contact: send to Zapier or Make or Purchase: send to Zapier or Make. For anything else, choose Start from scratch and add the trigger you need, such as A form is submitted or They book an appointment.
- Paste the address. Open the Send to a webhook step, paste the address under Post to, and press Save step.
- Switch the workflow on.
- Send a test. Fill in your own form, or add a test contact, so the trigger fires. In Zapier, Make or n8n, check the sample arrived, then map its fields in the next steps of your Zap, scenario or workflow.
What happens next
Every contact who reaches the step is sent once. Your other tool receives the contact's id, email, first_name and last_name, plus the workflow's id, the step number and the time (see Send contacts to a webhook for the exact format).
Only those contact fields are sent. Form answers, phone numbers, tags and order details are not included; look them up in your account when you need them. The planned API will cover more (see Connect apps and AI assistants).
Nothing flows back the other way yet: Zapier, Make and n8n cannot create or change anything in your account.
For agencies
Build the workflow inside each client's account, so it sends that client's contacts. The webhook address belongs to whoever owns the Zapier, Make or n8n account.
Troubleshooting
Zapier or Make says it has not received a sample. Nothing has reached the step yet. Check the workflow is switched on and the trigger really happened, then press the test or "run once" button in the other tool again.
n8n only receives data while I am testing. You pasted the test URL. Use the production URL and activate the workflow in n8n.
The form answers are missing. Only the contact's id, email and name are sent. See What happens next.
The step refuses my address.
It must start with https://, use a host name rather than an IP address, and carry no username or password. The message under Post to says which.
Some contacts arrive twice. They went through the workflow twice, for example by submitting two forms. Filter duplicates by id in your other tool.
