Why AI stopped: the switch, the limit and the wallet
Find out which of the three things that pay for and allow AI has stopped it, and what to do about each.
Every AI feature in your account, from the assistant in the top bar to the inbox assistant, the voice agent and the site builder, is checked against three things before it runs. When one of them says no, the AI stops rather than running up a bill, and the message tells you which one it was.
Before you start
- Anyone on the team can read the usage and the allowance. Topping up the wallet needs an owner or an admin.
Steps
- Read the message the AI showed you. It is one of these three: - "AI is switched off for this account. Ask your account manager." The account's AI switch is off. - "This account has reached its monthly AI limit." The spending limit for this month is used up. - "This account cannot spend on AI right now." The wallet that pays for AI is empty.
- Open AI Agents › Usage and find the Your AI allowance card. It shows the switch ("AI is on for this account." or "AI is switched off for this account.") and the Monthly limit ("No monthly limit is set." or an amount a month).
- On the same tab, set What used it to Everything and When to Last 30 days to see what the money went on. The table lists each feature, for example Inbox assistant, Workflow agent, Voice minutes or Site & funnel build, with its calls, tokens, words and cost.
- If the wallet was the reason, open Settings › Billing & wallet, choose an amount under Wallet ($10, $25, $50 or $100) and press the Top up button, which shows the amount. Pay by card on the payment page that opens; the balance goes up once the payment is through.
- Try the AI again.
What happens next
The three checks run in this order: switch, then limit, then wallet. So a switched-off account is told it is switched off, even when the wallet is also empty.
The monthly limit starts again at the start of each month. The wallet does not refill by itself: automatic refills are not available yet, so top up by hand. The balance is always shown in the chip in the top bar; press it to go to Billing & wallet.
Settings › Billing & wallet also shows an AI this month line under Usage: how many AI calls this month and what they took from your wallet, plus any AI your plan includes each month.
If you run your own account, there is no switch or limit for you to set: AI stays on and the wallet is what pays. The switch and the limit are set by whoever manages the account, which for a client is their agency.
For agencies
You set the switch and the limit for each client under Reselling › AI, in the Clients table: a switch in the AI column and a Monthly limit box with Set. The limit is counted at your cost. Defaults for new clients are under SaaS configurator › Subscription rules › AI for new clients. See Resell usage to your clients at your own price.
For clients of an agency
Your agency controls the switch and the limit. The Your AI allowance card says "Ask your account manager to change this." If your agency pays for your usage, the Wallet card says what was spent "— billed to your agency" and has no Top up button: ask your agency instead.
Troubleshooting
"AI is switched off for this account. Ask your account manager." This is a choice somebody made, not a fault. If your account is run by an agency, ask them to switch it on under Reselling › AI.
"This account has reached its monthly AI limit." Wait for the new month, or ask whoever manages your account to raise the limit.
"This account cannot spend on AI right now." Top up under Settings › Billing & wallet. If there is no Top up button, your agency pays for your usage and their wallet is empty: tell them.
The AI cost more than I expected this month. Open AI Agents › Usage and read What used it. A workflow that starts an agent step for every new contact, or an inbox assistant on a busy channel, is the usual cause.
Voice minutes do not show a token count. Calls are charged by the minute, not by the token. The minutes are included in the cost figure.
