Register for US texting (10DLC)

Register your business with the US carriers so your texts to US numbers are delivered, step by step.

US carriers only deliver business texts once the business sending them is registered. You fill in the form once, in about five minutes. Everything after that happens by itself, and you are emailed when your texts are live. Only US numbers need this.

Before you start

  • A US phone number on the account.
  • A business name on your account, and your own site published: carriers open it before they approve anything.
  • A published Contact page whose form asks for a phone number. The consent box carriers look for is added to such forms automatically.
  • For a registered company: the legal name exactly as on your EIN record, and the EIN. For a sole proprietor: your full name and a US mobile number that can receive a code.
  • Money in your wallet for the fees.

Steps

  1. Open Settings › Channels and press Register on the SMS row (or Manage, then the Registration tab).
  2. Under Does the business have an EIN?, press Yes, it is registered or No, I am a sole proprietor.
  3. For a registered business, fill in Legal business name, Kind of company (Private company, Non-profit or Government body) and EIN, for example 12-3456789. For a sole proprietor, fill in Your full name and Your mobile number.
  4. Choose the Industry and fill in Support email, Business phone, Street, City, State, ZIP and Website. If the business phone isn't a US number, press Use my number to use the one you bought.
  5. Press Next.
  6. On What you send, read the wording the carriers will see: What you send, How people opt in, Example message, Reply HELP, Reply STOP and The consent wording on your form. It is written from your business details and can't be edited.
  7. Check The page the carriers will check. If it asks for one, press Add a phone field to my Contact form.
  8. Tick I confirm this describes how my business collects phone numbers.
  9. Read the fee notice, then press Submit registration.
  10. Sole proprietors: a code is texted to your mobile. Type it under Verification code and press Verify.

What happens next

The page switches to Where your registration is, a checklist of four lines: Business verified, Campaign submitted, Carrier approval and Number attached. Each says whether it is done, in progress or needs you. Your campaign goes to the carriers by itself once the business is verified, approval usually takes one to three business days, and your number is attached by itself when it is approved.

Fees are charged to your wallet: once for the business, once for the campaign review, then monthly while the campaign runs. If the carriers refuse a step when you submit it, that step's fee goes back on your wallet and the message says so.

The fees are $9 for the business, $19 for the campaign review, then $3 a month while the campaign runs.

For agencies

Each client registers under its own legal business. Open the client (Sub-accounts › Open) and register from their Texting page, or use Texting across your clients to see everyone's progress.

For clients of an agency

If you see a message that your agency looks after US texting registration for your account, ask them to set it up. If you see There is no charge to you for this registration., your agency pays the fees.

Troubleshooting

"The legal registered name of the business is required — it must match the EIN record exactly." Type the name exactly as on your EIN paperwork, including "LLC" or "Inc".

"Carriers open your website before they approve anything. Publish your site first, then come back." Publish your site, then return to the form.

"A US business phone number is required." Press Use my number, or enter a US business line.

"The wording appears here once your site is published." The consent wording is built from your published site. Publish it first.

"The workspace has no company name…" Carriers register the business by name. Add your business name to the account, then submit again.

"Only an owner or admin can see or change the business's US texting registration." Ask the account owner or an admin to do it.

"It does not cover the … this registration costs." Top up under Settings › Billing & wallet by at least the amount shown.
