Daily sending limits and texting pauses
Why a new number can only send so many list texts a day, how the limit rises, and what happens when too many people opt out.
Carriers watch new numbers closely. To protect yours, list texting starts with a daily limit that rises by itself as you send, and pauses for a day if too many people opt out or too many texts fail. Replies to people who texted you are never limited or paused.
Before you start
- You are the account owner. Other team members see a note that these figures are only visible to the owner.
Steps
See your daily limit
- Open Settings › Channels, press Manage on the SMS row, and choose the Limits tab.
- Read your level and how many texts you have sent in the last 24 hours, for example Level 2 and 620 sent in the last 24 hours of 750.
- The bar and the line under it say what opens the next level, for example Send 750 in a single twenty-four hours and the next level opens at 1,000 a day.
- The ladder below lists every level: 500, 750, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 3,500 and 5,000 texts a day, then a last level with no daily limit.
See pauses and warnings
- Choose the Restrictions tab.
- If list texting is paused, a line says List texting is paused until, then the date and time and the reason, such as Too many people asked to stop.
- Below is the history of every warning (Warning) and pause (Paused), with the reason: Too many people asked to stop or Too many texts did not arrive. With none, it reads Nothing to show — your texting has never tripped either check.
See how your texts are doing
- Choose the Analytics tab: Texts out, Arrived, Did not arrive, Texts in, Asked to stop and Segments, with failures day by day.
What happens next
- The limit counts list texts over any rolling 24 hours, not per calendar day. It rises on its own as you send; there is nothing to apply for.
- Your texting is checked every hour. A pause lasts 24 hours, then list texting starts again by itself.
- During a pause, and when you reach the limit, one-to-one replies still go out.
- WhatsApp list sends have their own daily limit, shown in the message if you reach it.
For agencies
Texting across your clients shows each client's level in the Ramp column, for example Level 3 — 1,000 a day, and any pause in Status.
Troubleshooting
"You have reached today's texting limit of 500 messages." Wait for the rolling 24 hours to free up room, or use In batches when sending, so a large list goes out over several days.
"Bulk texts are paused for 24 hours: too many people opted out, or too many messages failed to arrive." Check the Restrictions tab for the reason. Before sending again, clean your list: remove old numbers, and send only to people who agreed to hear from you.
A pause happened after one big send. A large send to an old or bought list produces many opt-outs and failures at once. Send to recent, opted-in contacts, in smaller batches.
"Your number is set to stop at … texts a day, which is lower than your level allows." A lower daily cap is set on your number. That cap is the one that stops a send.
"Texting is briefly unavailable. Try again in a moment." The limit couldn't be checked at that moment. Try again shortly.
