Sell a product on a funnel page, with order bumps and upsells

A funnel page only takes money when a product is attached to it. Until then, a price on the page is words, and its button collects a lead. Attaching a product also lets you add an order bump (a tick-box extra paid in the same payment) and offer an upsell or downsell afterwards.

Before you start

• Stripe connected under Settings › Payments.
• The product made and active, with a price above zero. For a course, a download or a membership, make it under Products first.
• A funnel with a sales page or checkout step. See Create a funnel.

Steps

1. Open Sites › Funnels and click the funnel.
2. In Funnel steps, find the sales page or checkout step. Under its name, press Sell something here (or Edit what this sells if something is attached already).
3. In What this step sells, choose the product under Sell. Only active products with a price are listed.
4. Under As, choose the role. Each role explains itself as you pick it: Primary is the thing the page is for. Order bump is a tick-box add-on charged in the same payment. Upsell is offered after the first payment, on its own page. Downsell is offered instead when the upsell is declined.
5. Press Attach. The dialog lists it under Attached, and the step now shows "Sells" with the product name and its role.
6. To add an order bump, attach a second product to the same step with Order bump. For example, Bright Dental sells a $95 whitening kit and adds a $12 spare tray as the bump. At checkout the buyer sees a tick box reading "Yes, add … for …".
7. To offer an upsell, press Add a step, choose Upsell, then attach the upsell product to that new step with the role Upsell. New steps are placed before your thank-you page.
8. Publish each step: open the step's three-dot menu (…) and choose Publish, or press Publish in the page editor.
9. Buy it yourself once to check the whole path.

Give the upsell a special offer

On an upsell step you can make the offer sweeter:

1. Open the upsell step in the editor and click its button.
2. The dialog is headed What this button offers. Choose Discount (a Percentage off or Amount off) or Extend their trial (extra free days on what they signed up for).
3. Save. The checkout honours the offer only when it comes from this funnel's own button, so it cannot be copied onto another page.

What happens next

• The pay button on the page names the amount, for example Pay $95.00. When a page sells more than one primary product, the buyer picks one and the button reads Continue to payment.
• The price and billing always come from the product. If you change a product's price, the page charges the new price; the words on the page are not changed for you.
• A buyer can type a discount code on a sales page only when that code has Also works on sales pages switched on.
• Orders from the page appear under Sales › Orders; a bump shows the word "bump" beside it on the order.

For agencies

Products belong to each client's own account. When you build a funnel inside a client (Sub-accounts › Open), attach the client's products. When you copy a funnel to a client with Copy to client…, your products do not go across, so attach the client's own products before publishing.

Troubleshooting

The step says "Shows a price but nothing is attached to sell". The page shows a price or a checkout, but no product is attached. Press Sell something here and attach one.

The product I want is not in the Sell list. Only active, unarchived products priced above zero are offered. Give it a price, or reactivate it (turn on Show inactive in its list under Products, then choose Reactivate from its … menu).

The dialog says "You have no products with a price yet". Press Go to Products and make one first. It only needs a name and an amount.

"That product is already attached in this role". It is attached already. Choose a different role, or remove the existing one with the bin icon.

The upsell page never appears after payment. Check that the upsell step is published and sits after the checkout and before the thank-you page. Use Move up or Move down in the step's … menu.
