Put the app on your own domain
Add an app domain such as app.youragency.com, point it with one DNS record, and let the certificate be issued so your clients sign in at your address.
Your clients should sign in at your own address, such as app.northwind.studio, not a shared one. You add the domain, point it at the app with one DNS record where your domain is managed, and the secure certificate is issued for you. Once it is live, invitations, sale links and reports use it too.
Before you start
- You are an owner or admin of the agency account.
- A domain you own and access to its DNS settings (at your registrar or DNS host).
- A brand created under Brands (see Create a brand).
- A subdomain chosen for the app, for example app.northwind.studio. A subdomain is the easiest to point.
Steps
- Open Agency home, and on the Launchpad press Connect a domain. (You can also go to Settings › Branding and press Open Domains.) You are on Sites › Domains.
- Press Add domain.
- Under The domain you own, type the full address, for example app.northwind.studio.
- Under What it is for, choose The app itself: your clients sign in and work on it, under your brand.
- If you have brands, choose the Brand it serves.
- Press Save and show DNS. The dialog shows the record to add: its Type (CNAME), Name and Value. Press Copy all if you like.
- In a new tab, open your DNS provider and add the record exactly as shown.
- Go back to the dialog. It checks every 30 seconds while it is open; press Check now to check at once. When it is found, a message says the domain "is live."
- If it is taking a while, press I'll finish later. Nothing is lost; you can check again from the domain's menu.
What happens next
The domain appears in the list with the type App and, under Used by, the brand it serves. Its status shows two things:
- DNS: Waiting for DNS, then Active (or Failed, with the reason under the domain).
- The certificate: Certificate pending, Issuing certificate, then Certificate active.
When both are done, the sign-in page at that address shows your brand, and the brand card under Brands shows the domain as verified. Links you send to clients (invitations, sale links, reports) use it from then on.
The domain's menu (three dots) has Copy DNS record, Re-check, Edit… to change which brand it serves, and Remove.
For white-label agencies
Give each brand its own app domain, for example app.northwind.studio and app.harbourandco.com. Each domain shows the brand it serves on its sign-in page.
Troubleshooting
The domain stays on Waiting for DNS. DNS changes can take up to 72 hours, though it is usually minutes. Check the record was added to the right domain, and that the name matches exactly. Then press Re-check.
My DNS provider added my domain twice to the name.
Some providers add your domain for you. Type only the part before it (for example app) in the name field.
The domain says Failed. Read the reason under the domain name. Most often the record points somewhere else, or another record for the same name is in the way. Fix it and press Re-check.
The certificate is stuck on Issuing certificate. It is issued once DNS is active. Give it a little longer, then press Re-check.
"Domain limit reached". Your plan's custom domains are used, by app and funnel domains together. Remove one you no longer use, or upgrade.
Clients still sign in at the shared address. Send them your domain. Invitations sent before your domain was live used the shared address.
