Pages not loading on your domain
Work through the checks when your own web address shows nothing, an error or a security warning.
When you connect your own domain, three things must all be true before your page shows on it: the DNS record points at the app, the security certificate has been issued, and a published page is set to use that domain. Work through the checks below in order.
Before you start
- A login to your DNS provider (the company where your domain's settings live).
- The exact address that is not working, for example
book.brightdental.com/whitening.
Steps
- Check the domain's status. Open Sites › Domains and find the domain. The Status column shows two labels: - Waiting for DNS – the record has not been found yet. Go to step 2. - Failed – the reason is shown in red under the domain name. Fix what it says, then use Re-check. - Active – DNS is done. Go to step 4.
- Compare the DNS record. Open the menu at the end of the row and choose Copy DNS record. Sign in to your DNS provider and check the record there matches exactly: the type, the name and the value. If the provider added your domain to the end of the name for you, the name should not contain your domain twice.
- Remove old records for the same name. If the same name still has an older record pointing at your previous website host, delete that one. A name pointing two ways will not verify.
- Wait for the certificate. Once DNS is Active, the second label changes from Issuing certificate to Certificate active. Until then, browsers may show a security warning.
- Check a page uses the domain. The Used by column lists the funnels on this domain. If it says No funnels yet, open the funnel, find the Address card, choose the domain under Domain, set a Path if you want one, and save.
- Check the page is published. A draft page does not show to visitors. Open it and publish it. The Needs you panel on your dashboard lists pages that are still drafts.
- Re-check. Choose Re-check from the row's menu. A message says the domain is live, or that it is still waiting for DNS.
What happens next
Domains that are waiting are checked automatically every ten minutes, so a correct record goes live on its own. Until your domain is live, your page keeps working on its free platform address, so nothing is lost while you wait. Once the domain is live, the page is served on your domain.
DNS changes are usually seen within minutes, but can take up to 72 hours.
For agencies
Check the domain inside the client account that owns it. A domain set up as The app itself shows the brand it serves in Used by, not a list of funnels.
Troubleshooting
It worked on the platform address, but now only the domain works. That is expected. Once the domain is live, it serves the page instead. Update any links you shared.
The browser says the connection is not private. The certificate is still being issued, or it failed. Look at the second label in Sites › Domains. If it says Certificate failed, check the DNS record again and choose Re-check.
My DNS provider won't accept the record for the bare domain.
Some providers do not allow this kind of record on a domain without a prefix. Use a subdomain instead, such as www.brightdental.com or book.brightdental.com. A subdomain is also the easiest to point.
The page shows on one device but not another. The other device may be remembering old DNS or an old page. Try a private window, or wait an hour. See Something looks wrong after an update.
"Domain limit reached" when adding a domain.
Your plan's custom domains are all in use. The window offers one more domain from your wallet, a bigger plan, or Use paths instead: several funnels can share one domain on different paths, such as /whitening and /implants. See Limit and "not on your plan" messages.
The page is at a different address from the one I chose. If you left the path empty but another funnel already serves the front page of that domain, this funnel was given a path of its own name instead, and the message after saving said where it landed. Check the Address card for the address in use.
