Something looks wrong after an update
Get the latest version of the app, and clear out an old copy your browser is holding on to.
The app is updated often. Your browser keeps a copy of the app to load it quickly, and a tab left open for a long time can keep running the old version. If a button is missing, a page looks broken, or something works for a colleague but not for you, get the latest version first.
Before you start
- Save anything you are typing. Reloading throws away unsaved text.
Steps
- Look at the bottom of the screen. When a new version is out, a bar says A new version of the app is available. Press Reload. Press Later if you are in the middle of something, and reload when you are done.
- Reload the page. Press F5, or the reload button in your browser.
- Force a full reload. Press Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac. This fetches the whole app again rather than using the saved copy.
- Try a private window. Open a private or incognito window and sign in there. If the problem is gone, the saved copy in your normal window was the cause.
- Clear the browser's data for the app. In your browser settings, clear cached images and files (and, if that is not enough, cookies) for the app's address. You will need to sign in again.
- Try another browser. If it only goes wrong in one browser, turn off its extensions one at a time; ad blockers and privacy tools can break parts of a page.
- Still wrong? Report it, with the details in Tell support about a problem.
What happens next
The app checks for a new version about once a minute while your tab is open. It never reloads while you are typing. If the tab has been left alone for five minutes and a new version is out, it reloads itself.
For clients of an agency
The same steps apply. If something your agency set up looks wrong after these steps, tell your agency.
Troubleshooting
The "new version" bar keeps coming back. Later hides it for now, but it returns while your tab is still on the old version. Press Reload to take the new version.
My published page still shows the old version after I edited it. Check that you published the change, not only saved it. Then reload the page with Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac), or open it in a private window.
The app is too dark or too light. Use the theme switch at the right of the top bar: light, match your system, or dark.
The page is blank. Force a full reload (step 3). If it stays blank, try a private window, then report it with the address of the page.
I lost what I was typing after a reload. The app does not reload on its own while you are typing in a box, but a reload you start does. Copy long text somewhere safe before reloading.
