Send email from your own domain
Verify a sending domain so your emails come from your own address, such as hello@yourbusiness.com, and reach inboxes rather than spam.
Until you verify a sending domain, your emails leave from the platform's shared address, with your business name as the sender. Verifying your own domain makes them come from an address like hello@wickandember.co.uk, which looks like you and is far more likely to reach the inbox.
Before you start
- You are an owner or admin.
- A domain you own, usually the one your website is on.
- A login to the company that manages that domain's DNS (often where you bought it).
Steps
- Open Settings › Channels and scroll down to the Sending domain card.
- Press Add domain. A box called Add a sending domain opens.
- Type the Domain, for example
wickandember.co.uk, withoutwwworhttps://. - Type From (local part), the part before the @, for example
hello. - From name is optional; you can leave it empty. Your emails show your business name as the sender, taken from Brand name under Settings › Branding.
- Press Add and get DNS records. The domain appears in the list, opened to show a table of records with Type, Name, Value and Purpose.
- In another tab, sign in to your DNS provider and add every record in the table. Use the copy icon beside each value so nothing is mistyped.
- Back in the app, press Check now beside the domain.
- When all the records are found, the status changes from Pending DNS to Verified, and a message says your domain is verified and mail will leave from it.
- Press Send a test at the bottom of the card. A test email goes to your own sign-in address. Open it and check the From line shows your domain.
What happens next
As soon as the domain is verified, email sent for your business picks it up from the next send. There is nothing else to switch on. The Email row at the top of the Channels tab changes from Shared address to Your domain.
To stop using it, press Remove, then Confirm remove. Mail goes back to the shared address until you add another.
For agencies
A client account with no sending domain of its own sends from your agency's verified domain; its card says "Your mail inherits your agency's sending domain." A client can add its own domain to replace yours. Set up your agency's domain first, in your own account.
For clients of an agency
If your card says your mail inherits your agency's sending domain, your emails already go out under your agency's verified domain. Add your own to send as your business instead.
Troubleshooting
"DNS records not found yet. They can take up to 48 hours to propagate." The records are not visible yet. Wait an hour and press Check now again. DNS changes are often seen within minutes but can take up to 48 hours.
"Verification failed — check that all DNS records are saved at your registrar."
Every record must be found, not most. Compare each one with the table. A common mistake is a Name saved with your domain added twice, so it ends in .wickandember.co.uk.wickandember.co.uk. Many DNS providers add the domain for you, so enter only the part before it.
"No DNS records on file — try removing and re-adding this domain." Something went wrong when the domain was added. Press Remove, then add it again.
"Test email failed to send." Wait a minute and try again. If it keeps failing, see Tell support about a problem.
The test arrived from the shared address. The domain is not verified yet. Until it is, mail goes from the shared address under your business name.
Verified, but emails still land in spam. A new domain has no sending history. Start with smaller sends to people who know you, and grow over a few weeks. See Emails landing in spam or not sending.
There is no Add domain button. You are a member. Ask an owner or admin.
