Choose where a site lives: your free address and paths

Every funnel, website and store has an address. Keep it on your free address, or move it to your own domain, at the root or on a path.

Every account comes with a free address, shown as the first row of Sites › Domains and marked Included. Your funnels, websites and stores work there from the start. Each one also has a path, the part after the domain, such as /offer. Once you have connected a domain of your own, you choose which sites move to it, and on which path.

Before you start

Steps: set a funnel's address

  1. Open Sites › Funnels and click the funnel.
  2. Find the Address card: "Where visitors reach this funnel. Your platform address always works."
  3. Under Domain, choose your free address or one of your domains. A domain that is not live yet says so beside its name, for example "waiting for dns".
  4. Under Path, type the path, for example smile-offer, or leave it empty for the root of the domain. Several funnels can share one domain on different paths.
  5. Check the full address in the grey box. Press Copy to copy it, or Open to visit it.
  6. Press Save address. You see "Address saved."

Steps: set a website's or store's address

  • Website: in Sites › Websites, press Domain on the website, choose the domain and path, and save. Leave the path empty so Home is the front page of the domain.
  • Store: open the store, choose the Settings tab, and under Address choose the Domain and Path, then press Save settings. If you have no domains yet, Connect a domain takes you to Sites › Domains.

What happens next

  • Visitors reach the site at the new address. Links in order emails and the customer account follow it.
  • A site on a domain that is not live yet keeps answering on your free address; Open is greyed out with "This address goes live once the domain is active."
  • To move a site back, press Remove with the domain's name on the Address card. You see that the site is back on your free address.

Things to know

  • Only one site can own the root of a domain. If you choose a path that is already taken, the site is given a free one and the message says where it now serves.
  • The free address always works, even after you move a site to your own domain.

For agencies

Set addresses inside the client with Sub-accounts › Open. Each client has their own free address.

For clients of an agency

Your free address was made when your account was created, and it is listed first under Sites › Domains. Your own domain replaces it wherever you choose.

Troubleshooting

"It serves at /… — that address was already taken." Another site already uses that path, or the root, on this domain. The site was saved on the path shown. Choose a different path if you prefer.

"This domain is still waiting for DNS. Visitors keep using your platform address until it goes live." The domain's DNS record is not finished. Check it under Sites › Domains.

"This domain's DNS check failed." Fix the record under Sites › Domains, then re-check. Visitors keep using your free address meanwhile.

My website opens a different site at the root of my domain. Another site owns the root. Give one of them a path.
