Set up your store's settings

Choose your store's currency, how buying works, the policies shown at checkout, where new-order emails go, and the store's address.

The pages of a store are edited in the editor like any site. Everything a shop needs that a website does not lives in the store's Settings tab, on one page: what money looks like, how buying works, delivery, what the checkout shows, where the store answers, and whether it can take payment.

Before you start

  • A store. See Open a store.
  • Your refund policy, privacy policy and terms, if you have them written.

Steps

  1. Open Sites › Stores, press Open store, and choose the Settings tab.
  2. Money: choose the Currency. The Symbol follows it and can be changed (a Swiss shop may want "CHF" or "Fr."). Choose Where it sits, before or after the number. The line underneath shows how prices will read, for example "Prices will read £19.91".
  3. Buying: under What a buy button does, choose Add to basket — they can keep shopping or Buy now — straight to the checkout. A basket suits a shop with a shelf; buying at once suits a shop selling one thing well.
  4. Delivery: set up zones and rates. See Set up delivery zones and rates.
  5. At the door: offer a first-visit discount, and switch on Sell things in more than one colour or size if your products come in options. See Offer a discount for an email on a first visit.
  6. Orders: type the address under Tell this address about new orders, or leave it empty to use the workspace's own address. Then fill in Refund policy, Privacy policy and Terms.
  7. Address: choose the Domain the store answers on and its Path. See Choose where a site lives.
  8. Taking money: check that it says Stripe is connected.
  9. Press Save settings at the bottom. You see "Settings saved."

What happens next

  • Prices on the shelf, in the basket and at the checkout use your currency and symbol.
  • The refund policy, privacy policy and terms are shown at the checkout under the pay button, each folded until a buyer opens it. One left empty is not shown.
  • New-order emails go to the address you set.
  • Taking money shows the platform fee on your plan: "No platform fee on your plan", or the percentage taken per sale.

Things to know

  • Delivery zones, discounts and categories belong to your whole account, so every store you run shares them. Currency, buying, policies and the address belong to this store.
  • Changing the currency does not convert your prices. Check each product's price after changing it.

For agencies

Set these up inside the client's store with Sub-accounts › Open. The client's own Stripe account is what Taking money reports on.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't save these settings." Nothing was saved. Try again; if it keeps failing, reload the page and re-enter your changes.

"Settings saved" did not appear, and an address message did instead. The settings saved, but the address could not be. The message says why, for example the path is taken by another site on that domain. Choose another path.

Taking money says "Stripe hasn't finished with your account". Stripe still needs something before it will take payments. Until it does, the shop shows products but checkouts cannot be completed. Go to Settings › Payments and press Finish setting up.

The domain I want says "not live yet". The domain is added but its DNS is not finished. The store keeps answering on your free address until it is. See Connect your own domain.

My policies do not show at checkout. Press Save settings after filling them in. An empty policy is not shown.
