Create and send an email campaign
Write a one-off email, choose who gets it, and send it now or at a time you set.
A campaign is a one-off email to a group of your contacts: a newsletter, a sale, an announcement. You set it up in four short steps, finish it in the editor, and send it when you are ready.
Before you start
- Set up your sending domain under Settings › Channels, so the email comes from your own address.
- Add your logo and brand colour under Settings › Branding. Templates pick them up.
- If you want to send to a group rather than everyone, save that group as a Smart List on Contacts first.
Steps
- Go to Marketing › Email and open the Campaigns tab.
- Click New. The new-campaign screen opens on step 1, The email.
- Click Untitled campaign at the top and type a name for yourself, for example "September candle drop". Only you see this name. The subject is what the reader sees.
- Choose how to start: - From a template: pick a design. The category buttons, such as Newsletter or Promos & deals, narrow the list. Your own templates appear under Your templates. - Build with AI: choose a design, describe the email ("our autumn candles are back, 15% off until Sunday") and click Write it. - Blank: an empty email. You add the blocks in the editor at the end.
- Click Next. On Who it goes to, choose Everyone with an email address or one of your Smart Lists. The count already leaves out contacts with no address, and anyone who unsubscribed, bounced or complained.
- Click Next. On When it goes, choose Send immediately or At a set time. For a set time, pick the date and time in Send it at.
- Click Next. On Check it over, type the Subject, then read the summary: Called, Goes to, When and Starts from.
- Click Create and open the editor. The campaign is saved as a draft. Nothing has been sent.
- In the editor, change anything you like. Design edits blocks (add more with Add a block); HTML takes your own code. Preview shows it as a reader will. Changes save on their own.
- To greet people by name, click a field under Fields you can use, such as {{first_name}}, to copy it, and paste it into the text.
- Send it:
- To send now, click Send to [number] now in the bar at the bottom, then Yes, send it. A message says how many it was sent to.
- To send later, click Schedule it and pick the date and time.
What happens next
- A scheduled campaign goes out within five minutes of its time, whether or not anybody has the app open. Until then you can edit it, Change the time, or Cancel the schedule to make it a draft again.
- A campaign is only ever sent once. After it goes, the audience is locked and the bar reads "Sent to [number] people".
- Emails beyond your plan's monthly allowance are paid from your wallet. The audience panel warns you when some of the send falls outside the allowance.
- Opens, clicks and orders appear on the Statistics tab.
For agencies
Campaigns belong to one account. To send for a client, open the client first with Sub-accounts › Open. The email then uses that client's contacts, branding and sending domain.
Troubleshooting
Next is greyed out on the first step. The line beside the button says why. With From a template you still need to click a design ("Choose a template."). With Build with AI you need to describe the email and click Write it first.
It says "Nobody in that list can be emailed." Everyone in that Smart List has no email address, has unsubscribed, or has bounced. Choose a different list, or add email addresses to those contacts.
It says "That time has already passed. Pick a later one." The scheduled time is in the past. Times are read in your own timezone, so check the date as well as the hour.
The send button is greyed out. The campaign has no audience yet, or the audience count is zero. The bar reads "This is a draft. Choose who it goes to on the left, then send it from here." Pick an audience in Who it goes to on the left of the editor.
It says "Your balance won't cover this send. Top up and try again." Part of this send is beyond your monthly allowance and your wallet is too low. Add credit under Settings › Billing & wallet, then send again.
